England vs West Indies 1st test, Lords – Preview, England hold advantage

Finally the recent most anticipated test series, the West Indies tour of England has started, and its going to be the clash between the England’s player of the year James Anderson and the world’s top Test batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, or rather the experienced team of England against the young and energetic team of West Indies. The tour hasn’t started well for the West Indies as they lost the test against England lions by 10 wickets but the test had its own facts, West Indies not using their pace attack after a few early overs.

Match Facts and Past records

  • May 17-21, Lord’s
  • Start time 1100 (1000GMT)
  • Out of the last five tests England played, they lost four and won one test
  • Out of the last five tests Windies played, they lost thrice and two tests were drawn

West Indies lost the test series against Australia 2-0 but brought out a few positives which they can implement accordingly in the tests against England, with the change in batting line-up, Chanderpaul in the top order and the trio of pace Fidel Edwards, Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul could do some destruction in the pitches which assist the pacers well.
England on the other hand would have to decide on whether to use an extra pacer or go with Jonny Bairstow to strengthen the batting order, and we can find something about that only when the match starts.

West Indies hasn’t won a single test at Lords since 1988, and they would look to break the streak after 23 years, and Darren Sammy is owing it all to the Lords stadium.
