IPL 5 the last for Sourav Ganguly as a player: Subrata Roy
The IPL 5 season would be the last one for the fans to see Sourav Ganguly as a player, the Pune Warriors India team owner Subrata Roy said. Subrata Roy Sahara said: “Sourav wants to give youngsters a chance in the last games.”, and this gives a clear indication that the previous match of Pune Warriors India against Rajasthan Royals might have been the last one for Sourav Ganguly and he might not be appearing for the next three remaining games of Pune.
Roy said that the franchise had to force him to play in the current season, and so he won’t be playing in the next season of IPL, and would be a mentor for the Pune team. “Sourav will be the mentor next season. We pushed him to play in IPL 5.” Instead of Ganguly, it would be Yuvraj Singh who might turn up for the next season and would captain the side.
Roy even mentioned that it wasn’t Sourav’s captaincy which led to the downfall of the team in this season, but the team lacked the talent from the Indian contingent. “Ganguly is a fine captain, our team lacked good Indian talent.”
As the blame game keeps running around, it was questioned several times by the fans and media on why the Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal and the previous Rajasthan IPL player Kamran Khan were ignored and not given a chance to play when they were available as the options. After Rahul Sharma was dumped for being hit for five sixes by Chris Gayle, the team still lacked any special talent and players like Manish Pandey were still not brought into the side.
While questions were even raised on the captaincy and batting of Sourav Ganguly, it was the entire Pune team which lacked the determination, with Robin Uthappa not having a big strike rate, and the only positive play was from Steven Smith, who showed an excellent performance on the field and bat.Tags: ipl 2012 . ipl 5 .
