Kolkata Knight Riders lift IPL 2012 title, beats Chennai by 5 wickets
Kolkata Knight Riders registered their maiden IPL title victory, by beating Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets and became the new champions of IPL. It was a surprise package for Kolkata with Manvinder Bisla, who was called in to replace Brendon McCullum played a dream knock by scoring 89 runs and help his team win the final match. After winning the toss, Chennai elected to bat first and scored 190 runs losing 3 wickets, but Kolkata achieved the target with 2 balls remaining.
Chennai made a formidable start to the innings with Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey adding 87 runs in the first 10 overs before Vijay, the hero for Chennai’s last match victory, tried to go for a big hit off Bhatia but was caught in the deep. Suresh Raina blasted off with boundaries and kept the run rate high, before the partnership broke when Chennai was at 160 from 17 overs and Michael Hussey was bowled by Jacques Kallis. Dhoni came in to hit a couple boundaries and add 30 runs with Suresh Raina, who had scored 73 runs from 38 balls, including three boundaries and five sixes. Chennai set up a target of 191 runs, with Shakib Al Hasan for Kolkata picking up a wicket, along with Kallis and Bhatia picking up one each.

Kolkata Knight Riders got a shocker in the first over itself, when Gautam Gambhir was bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus, but from then it was Manvinder Bisla who controlled the innings for Kolkata along with Jacques Kallis and he added 136 runs for the second wicket within 14 overs. Bisla hammered every bowler, including R Ashwin for boundaries, before he was dismissed for 89 runs when he went for a big hit off Albie Morkel and was caught in the deep by S Badrinath. Quick wickets fell along with the scoring pace maintained, as Kolkata lost Laxmi Shukla and Yusuf Pathan who added three and one runs respectively.
Jacques Kallis, who was struggling with cramps was caught by Jadeja off Hilfenhaus. Shakib Al Hasan and Manoj Tiwary were left with the chase, when Hilfenhaus bowled a full toss and it was caught by Murali Vijay, to be called a no-ball ultimately as it was above the waist. Kolkata needed 9 runs from the final over bowled by Dwayne Bravo.

1st ball – Manoj Tiwary sent it to square leg and run for a quick single, and Shakib would have gone if Ashwin had hit it directly to the stumps.
2nd ball – Shakib drags a low full toss to the leg side, goes to deep midwicket and they grab a single.
3rd ball – Four – Manoj Tiwary hits it down to leg side where the fine leg had no chance and it was a four.
4th ball – Four – Kolkata wins it with the same shot hit by Manoj Tiwary and he sprinted towards the pavilion to be lifted by the teammates.
This is a maiden IPL title victory for Kolkata Knight Riders, under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir as they beat Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets. Manvinder Bisla played the innings of the season, hitting 89 off just 48 balls.
