Rahul Dravid will be the captain, coach, and mentor of Rajasthan Royals: Raj Kundra

Rahul Dravid is going to be the coach, mentor and even would captain the Rajasthan Royals team in the 5th season of IPL, after the batting maestro had retired from the International and domestic cricket in the longer and shorter formats. This decision was given by the team co-owner Raj Kundra.

The positions would be filled up by Rahul Dravid, just like they were done by the previous captain Shane Warne, who had mentored and coached the team, along with being the captain for the Rajasthan team in the previous seasons. Raj Kundra told, “Rahul Dravid will be the coach and the mentor as far as the team is concerned,”

Rahul Dravid would play a triple role in Rajasthan team for this season of IPL

Kundra had only one player in mind as a replacement, after Shane Warne had announced his retirement from the T20 cricket, and it was Rahul Dravid who was suggested as the next choice. “He was my first choice when the board sat down and said who do you want as captain. We had to make the decision. I had only one name and that was Rahul Dravid,”

“He is someone the Indian players look up to and the international players respect. He is a role model. He is very calm and collected,”, the praises about Dravid didn’t go less.
Rahul Dravid had been in Royal Challengers Bangalore for the first three seasons of the Indian Premier League, and as soon as the contract ended, Rajasthan Royals purchased him for the price of $500,000 in 2011, the 4th season of IPL.

Rajasthan franchise co-owner Kundra expects that Rahul Dravid could add some good spark into the team, and can again bring the victory for the team, as they did in the first season under the captaincy of the legendary spinner Shane Warne. Although been known for the test cricket, Rahul Dravid had scored 343 runs from the 12 matches he played for Rahasthan in the 2011 season.
“This year we have given him a decent team as per his requirements. We have some great players. I hope he gives us the result we had in season one,” Kundra said.
