Ravindra Jadeja abuses a female fan

“With great power comes great responsibility” is an adage that most of us would do well to implement in our life and more so if it happens to be the most expensive player in this year’s IPL:- Ravindra Jadeja.

In an incident which can at best be termed as ignominious, the Chennai Super Kings all-rounder profusely abused and foul-mouthed an ardent cricket fan who happened to be a girl. The visceral abuse was unleashed by Jadeja over a private conversation on BBM (Black Berry Messenger) and it brought to the fore the despicable and reprehensible attitude of the cricketer who still has a long way to go in establishing himself as the cricketer to reckon with.

Jadeja was on the BBM list of one of his fans and during a conversation, she asked him in a light manner how did he manage to fetch the pretty penny in IPL 5 auction and congratulated him for getting the blinding bargain. Jadeja flew off the handle and wrote her, “F**K OFF”. The girl was astonished and requested him not to use filthy language but Jadeja wasn’t the one who wanted to be sensible and he hurled flurry of disrespectful remarks at her.

Dismayed, the girl immediately deleted him from her BBM list. Below is the snapshot of the messages exchanged between the cricketer and the girl.

Considering the innocuous question that was put forward by the girl, in complete jest as is evident by the exchange of messages, Jadeja’s reply to it was completely uncalled for.

All throughout the IPL the commentator’s and the cricket experts have consistently questioned and tried to establish a link between performances of players and their earth-shattering price tags. None of it has ever been perceived as derogatory or offensive in nature.

Last December Rahul Dravid, a man of impeccable dignity and class, said at the Bradman Oration that the player’s and the cricket administrator’s have a responsibility towards the fans all across the globe. Even though the words of the legendary cricketer were in a slightly different context, Ravindra Jadeja would do himself a great service by watching the video for few times to understand how to value the honour which comes along by representing India at an international level.
