Sunil Narine to play the entire IPL 2012 season, not in WI-Aus Test series
Sunil Narine, who was to decide whether to play the IPL this season, or to be available for selection for the test series against Australia, has finally decided to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders team in this IPL and as one of the team spokesperson says, he would be available for the entire season, which means he won’t be available for the test series.
Venky Mysore, the Knight Riders chief executive, told ESPNcricinfo that Narine will be landing in Kolkata today and is free to play in the tournament. Narine and the WICB had been in discussions behind the scenes but the West Indies coach, Otis Gibson, had admitted it would be difficult to stop Narine playing in the IPL if that was his preference. Narine, 23, has taken 34 first-class wickets at an average of 11.88.
Narine has had a good recent form in the shorter format of the game, and hasn’t got a chance to debut in the test format. He has been good in the Champions League T20 last year, where he took some good wickets giving less runs, and this was added up by the ODI series against Australia which gave him a bid of $700,000 in the IPL this season for the Kolkata team.
