England Cricket Team
The England and Wales Cricket team is the team representing England and Wales, which was first governed by the Marylebone Cricket Club till the end of 1996, and then governed by England and Wales Cricket Board and is being currently governed by the same since 1st January 1997. England is one of the two teams which have been first granted the status of playing tests, with Australia on 15 March 1877. 94 years later, both the teams played the first ODI match ever, on 5 January 1971.
The England cricket team has won the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 and are the current champions of it. Since the Australian tour and season of 1882–83, England and Australia have been playing the Ashes series, and are the current holders of the Ashes. The Ashes began after the English team lost the test series at home 1-0 against Australia, and The Sporting Times had printed an obituary, stating:
In Affectionate Remembrance of ENGLISH CRICKET, which died at the Oval on 29th AUGUST 1882, Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances R.I.P. N.B. – The body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia
England’s record in the ICC World Cup has not been good, as they have reached the finals thrice but couldn’t win the World Cup.
